Suitable materials
A surface hardening process for steel and cast iron, carried out in a gas oven, makes the surface resistant to wear and corrosion.

The Nitrotec® process can be applied to many materials, but not all steel grades are suitable.
suitable materials are:
sheet material
Non-alloy carbon steel up to 0.4 % C e.g. DO1….DC04 (1.0330…… 1.0338)
Micro-alloyed steel or HSLA steel with the addition of Niobium (Nb)
All steels are preferably aluminised.
Spring steel 0.5 – 0.8 % C e.g. CK75 (1.1248)
bar material
Refining steels with maximum 0.4% C. All materials in condition Q+T, whereby the temper temperature is > 610 °C. Most common are for example, 42CrMo4 (1.7225) and 42CrNiMo6 (1.6565). Insertion steels such as 15Cr3 (1.7015) and 16MnCr5 (1.7131) Nitriding steel, preferably tempered above 610°C e.g. 31CrMoV9 (1.8519)
unsuitable materials
Sheet material: Micro-alloyed (HSLA) steel with Vanadium (V) and Titanium (Ti)
Rod material, High nickel alloyed steel to achieve high core strength e.g. 20NiCrMo2-2 (1.6523).
